Terms of use

Last updated .

By using massoutage.com, its feeds, alerts or API, you agree to these terms.

Unofficial data, no guarantee

MassOutage collects outage figures that utilities and government agencies publish, and reshapes them by county and town. It is not affiliated with any utility or agency and is not a system of record. Figures can be incomplete, delayed, estimated or wrong, and sources can change or stop without notice. The coverage and methodology pages explain the limits.

The site, feeds, alerts and API are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, and with no uptime or delivery guarantee.

Not for emergencies or life-safety decisions

Don’t rely on MassOutage for decisions where a wrong or missing number could put someone at risk, including medical equipment, evacuation or dispatch. Confirm with your utility or emergency management agency. To report an outage or a hazard, contact your utility. In an emergency, call 911.

Using the data

MassOutage’s data is published under CC BY 4.0. Credit “MassOutage (massoutage.com)” and link back. Upstream datasets keep their own terms; they are listed on data sources.

Don’t present MassOutage data as coming from a utility or agency, or as official.

Fair use of the API and feeds

  • No key is needed. Poll live endpoints no more than every 5 minutes, as the developer docs describe; the data refreshes about every 10 minutes, so faster polling gains nothing.
  • Send a descriptive User-Agent so we can reach you if something goes wrong.
  • Don’t overload the service, work around rate limits, or probe it for vulnerabilities outside the security policy.
  • We may throttle or block traffic that harms the service for others.

Accounts, alerts and webhooks

Accounts are free. You’re responsible for the workspaces, members and destinations you set up, and for only sending alerts to channels and addresses you’re allowed to use. Alerts can arrive late or not at all, so don’t make them your only warning.

We may pause channels that keep failing and suspend accounts used for abuse. You can delete your account at any time by writing to [email protected]. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.

For utilities and data publishers

If you publish a source we collect and want to change how we use it, correct attribution, or ask us to stop, email [email protected]. We act on these requests.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, MassOutage and its maintainer are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using, or being unable to use, the site, data, alerts or API, including losses from inaccurate, delayed or missing outage information.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Continuing to use MassOutage after a change means you accept it. Questions go to contact.
